Immediate capitulation

Rod Liddle, at the Spectator, quotes in full a letter sent by Inayat Bunglawala of the Muslim Council of Britain to Stephen Whittle, Director of Editorial Policy at the BBC.

In this letter Inayat Bunglawala complains about the "distress" caused to "many" British Muslims by the use of the phrase "Islamic terrorists" in recent BBC News report about Kashmir. He goes on to argue the case for Kashmiri independence from India, and blames India for all the problems of Kashmir, as well as calling for a referendum in Kashmir to settle the issue.

Rod describes the reply from from Stephen Whittle as an "immediate capitulation", and it's hard to dissent from that description:
Thanks for your note. I have discussed this with the various output editors. It is not our policy to describe Kashmiri separatists in this way and that has been made clear. It was an isolated incident and will not be repeated.
Seek and ye shall obtain, it seems...at least if ye be someone from the Muslim Council of Britain writing to a senior BBC editor.
